Relationships Roadmap

Adolescents require a huge range of skills to enable them to succeed in today's rapidly changing world. RSE is no different. For Junior Secondary students, a refresher on puberty and reproduction is beneficial as many students may not have received RSE in primary school. This should expand into discussions of healthy relationships as well as addressing aspects of teen dating abuse. Senior secondary students will be beginning to deal with romantic and sexual relationships, as well as coping with a range of pressures unique to that age group. This age group needs open and frank discussions that respect the emerging adult and their self-efficacy.

Topics can be adapted depending on the age group and may include:

  • Decision-making skills

  • Forming and maintaining friendships

  • Managing risk

  • Sexual relationships

  • Consent and negotiation

  • Communication

  • Safer sex & contraception

  • Sexual identity

  • Pornography

Recommended minimum package includes:

2 x 60 minute student sessions (per year level)

Students remain in their regular class group

It is always advisable to hold a 60-minute parent session each year to address any issues or concerns.
